What do your family photos mean to you?
My only photo of my parents
This is my first blog and written from the heart.
The 3rd effort as i keep forgetting to save it.
Why are your family photos important to you?
I will tell you why they are important to me. Firstly I have very few of me before I purchased my first camera at age 15, and also because I have lost many loved ones who have not had professional photos done.
When someone we love dies, the first thing we look for is photos of that person, for comfort but also often for their funeral.
Exist in photos for your children and grandchildren, as one day that is all they will have left of you. It is your family history and legacy.
This is the only photo I own of my parents and its over 65 years old, proof that professionally printed photos outlast people.
What I would give to have a photo of myself with my mum, but not one was taken. I would love to have a photo with my 9 siblings and our parents, but again, such a thing does not exist.
A photo of myself as a baby or young child I would treasure but again, none taken.
My older sisters say I was too fat but let them prove that with no photographic evidence.
Our only photo of us 9 siblings is a dodgy one I added 2 sisters to the end of one taken at our dads funeral over 20 years ago. We got some dark looks for being disrespectful taking photos at a funeral but its the only one we have.
Having tragically lost one brother a few years ago and both parents passed away, we will never have that family photo.
Don't be the one to regret having no photos to treasure and pass onto your future generations.
Exist in the photos for your children, don't hide behind the camera yourself as they will want to see you too.
Get your photos taken and print them, as USB and disks do not get framed and shown off, more likely lost in the desk draw. The also can, and do corrupt.
With technology moving so fast who knows how long we can access things like USB.
If you had to run from your house because of any sort of disaster, most people will grab their legal documents and photos first, oh and the children and pets.
Make sure you have some to pack.
thanks for reading this far.
